Robert Thorne is a 21-year-old professional race car driver
who is destined to succeed. When Thorne was eight years old,
he began racing karts and realized that talent sat with him
behind the wheel. Thorne earned his competition racing license
at fifteen years of age, a year before it was legal for him to drive on public roads.

In 2005 Young Robert Thorne traveled to Valencia, Spain to compete in Formula BMW
USA’s licensing course. While he was there, Thorne became one of four drivers to earn the
prestigious Formula BMW Scholarship for the 2006 season. After the trip to Spain, his
dreams of becoming a professional race car driver were set in stone.  Thorne finished 5th
in the rookie cup in his first year of open wheel racing. 2007 brought even more success
for this young driver with two podium finishes and 6th place in the series’ championship. In
2008 Thorne was ready to step up to a higher level, and signed with Racer’s Edge
Motorsports, a team competing in the Grand-Am Rolex Series. Thorne’s initial test at
Daytona and first drive in a sports car showed promising results when he broke the track
record by half a second. Thorne and his teammates followed the performance by finishing
in the top ten at the Daytona 24 Hours for the GT competition class. Besides karting and
open wheel racing, Thorne has experience ice racing and autocrossing, as well as Grand-
Am. There is no doubt that the years to come will continue to bring success for this young
driver. 2011 brought home a National championship in SCCA Solo, and a second place in
the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb showing that Roberts Talents extend to every edge
of the sport.
